Bacteria resistant to last-resort antibiotic, missed by standard tests

Microbiologists have detected “heteroresistance” to colistin, a last-resort antibiotic, in already highly resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae, a bacterium that causes blood, soft tissue and urinary tract infections.
